I advocate for organizations and individuals before administrative agencies, trial courts and appeals courts, in order to put their most difficult problems in the rearview. Just as importantly, I counsel clients through these problems, helping them understand the range of potential outcomes, so that they can make intelligent decisions about whether to a fight a case all the way through an appeal, negotiate an early resolution, or to take some intermediate path that best meets their goals.

Employers, manufacturers, colleges, universities and healthcare providers hire me to help resolve a far-ranging set of problems: for employers, I frequently handle claims of employment discrimination, retaliation and whistleblower cases, along with wage and hour disputes. I represent colleges and universities in employment cases, along with investigating and resolving general liability claims. For manufacturers, I frequently defend cases alleging that their product injured consumers, including cases involving many hundreds of claimants. And for healthcare providers, I work to resolve allegations that their actions were the legal cause of a serious injury or even death.

Of course, the best way to solve most problems is to avoid them. To that end, I frequently counsel employers to help them grow and thrive while staying in compliance with the myriad requirements imposed by state and federal law; I routinely advise employers on all aspects of the employment relationship. This includes employee onboarding, wage and hour issues, leaves, disciplinary action and discharge; additionally, I help employers work through accommodation requests and other disability-related inquiries.  

I live on a rural hilltop in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, with a very personable rescue dog.  Most of the time that I am not practicing law, you can find us splitting wood, moving rocks, and tending to the grounds/buildings/machinery there, though I have been known to sneak in the odd weekend exploring the North Country and beyond via snowmobile or four wheeler.

Representative Matters

• Serve as primary outside counsel to one of New Hampshire’s largest employers in litigated employment claims;
• As part of a leadership team from multiple firms, represented a New Hampshire manufacturer in a series of large, multistate products liability cases brought in both federal and state court;
• Represented international parent company of New Hampshire medical device manufacturer in jurisdictional dispute related to products liability case;
• Represented New Hampshire generic drug manufacturer in products liability trial and appeal that resulted in national recognition of the conflict preemption defense to failure-to-warn claims;
• Represented designer and manufacturer of helicopter engine control unit in case alleging defective design resulting in engine flameout;
• Routinely counsel employers on their responsibilities under state and federal employment law.
