Joe is a business litigator who zealously and efficiently advocates for the client through all stages of the pre-trial dispute process in state and federal courts, in settlement negotiations, and in arbitration. Before joining Devine Millimet, Joe practiced at two national business litigation practice groups in Boston, where he was relied on to independently advise on and resolve complex factual, legal, and business issues. A tireless worker and learner, Joe does his best to turn over every stone for an opportunity—whether in crafting an argument, re-framing or breaking down complex problems, or exploiting the latest information technology for key efficiency value adds.
Joe also has extensive experience managing complex e-discovery caseloads and issues, optimizing document reviews and analysis to keep the client’s most sensitive documents and information organized, protected, and ready to be employed. Joe has also advised SaaS and e-commerce companies on information management and responding to sensitive subpoena and discovery requests.
Joe has also supported corporate law practice groups in drafting and reviewing corporate governance documents, service agreements and commercial leases, and compliance policies and strategies. As examples, Joe revised the employment agreements for a large regional grocer in response to the latest Supreme Court case law on arbitrating employment disputes. He drafted an information security compliance policy for an e-commerce start up in response to ever evolving national and international regulatory regimes.
Joe can be relied on to independently work up complex commercial cases as the lone associate, keeping expenses low while putting the client in strategically optimal positions. Joe has represented a top tech company, advising on information security and security; an international food services company in complex contract disputes; individual plaintiffs in large real estate and construction disputes; and a publicly traded energy technology company in a partnership dispute.
Bringing rigorous analysis, mature business-minded judgment, and the drive to learn what needs to be known, a hallmark of Joe’s approach is a tireless work ethic and deep appreciation of the client’s financial and business interests.
Joe is starting a family with his wife, a leader in child psychiatry. He likes to read English history and poetry, and goofing around with his nephew (a large four-year-old lefty who may one day be a force on the mound or defensive line).
Joe volunteers with a New Hampshire chapter of an international non-profit focused on giving individuals and families in need opportunities to own their own homes. Also a former enlisted Marine and veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Joe likes to support military veterans to make the most of their service experience and the post-9/11 G.I. Bill in their transitions to higher education and the workforce.
