George Dana Bisbee

It is most satisfying for me to assist companies and individuals in working through what can be a cumbersome and challenging process of obtaining the myriad approvals that are needed in order to proceed with new development. I have a special affinity for and substantial experience in addressing environmental permitting needs for our clients. I learned the ropes in this field as a member of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office for 14 years. Then, during my eight years as Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Services, including the last two as Acting Commissioner, I refined my understanding of environmental issues and learned in detail about the permitting process and those in charge of it. That prior experience, coupled with now 13 years of practice in two large New Hampshire firms, has provided a great foundation for my work in environmental permitting, defending DES enforcement actions, and siting energy facilities and other land use development. I take pride in my ability to find solutions to challenging permitting and other environmental issues for our clients.

I am honored to represent businesses of all sizes, individuals, and municipalities. Current cases involve permitting assistance for the largest energy infrastructure project currently under development in New Hampshire, advising companies on hazardous waste enforcement matters brought by the Department of Environmental Services, and advice to municipalities on wastewater and water infrastructure issues. Various wetlands regulatory issues remain a regular part of my practice, either working on permitting on the front end or assisting clients resolve disputes with DES and/or neighbors on shorefront and wetlands disputes. I am also honored to assist clients in the legislative arena and on administrative rules development.

It has been a privilege to serve on various non-profit boards in the years since I left state service. I recently stepped down as chair of the Board of Trustees for both Leadership New Hampshire and the NH Lakes Association. I have since joined the boards of NH Legal Assistance and the NH Legal Advice & Referral Center. I remain active with the NH Business & Industry Association and the NH Association of General Contractors, serving on both of those entities’ environmental committees, as well as the New Hampshire Bar Association Environmental Section.
