In New Hampshire and New England, electricity, natural gas, propane, and water suppliers operate in both emerging markets and rapidly changing regulatory environments. Utility companies, utility customers, self-generators, co-generators, hydroelectric operators, competitive suppliers, municipalities, and regulators are all challenged by the pace of change.

Based in our state capital office in Concord, New Hampshire, Devine Millimet's Energy & Regulatory Affairs practice group provides the knowledge and experience our clients need to meet the challenges and grasp the opportunities presented by these changes. The group's extensive experience practicing before the Public Utilities Commission and the full spectrum of related Executive Branch and Legislative commissions and committees, allows our energy and utility lawyers to assist clients engaged in, or affected by, the electricity, natural gas, propane and water industries.

Devine Millimet has represented utilities, utility customers, municipalities, and self-generators in matters such as transactional and regulatory compliance, utility industry restructuring, rate-setting, the purchase and sale of utility generation, transmission and distribution of assets and commodities, and environmental disclosures. Our energy lawyers represented one of the first New Hampshire utility customers to purchase electricity from an alternative source in the competitive market. They have represented clients in the sale of nuclear generation assets and transmission facilities. They have appeared before the Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC), the New Hampshire Nuclear Decommissioning Finance Committee, and the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee.

The Energy & Regulatory Affairs group has assisted clients with the financing and contracting associated with the construction and operation of electric generating facilities, and the long- and short-term purchases in the electric wholesale marketplace. Our utility lawyers are also actively involved in matters concerning municipal electric and water utilities.

Working in conjunction with Devine Millimet's other practice groups, our energy and utility lawyers provide full-service, legal counsel to traditional utility clients and an ever-widening roster of new participants in this rapidly changing industry.
