Paul C. Remus
Shareholder

Biography

Paul is a shareholder of the firm whose practice now focuses primarily on intellectual property and regulation of financial institutions. Paul began practicing with the premier public contracts law firm in Washington and, for a number of years, represented companies around the country in disputes with the federal government.

Paul then represented depository institutions throughout northern New England in forming bank holding companies, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory enforcement proceedings. He represented more depository institutions in northern New England than any other lawyer. Paul is now actively following the creation of the Consumer Finance Protection Agency.

Paul concentrates his intellectual property practice in prosecuting patent applications, drafting non-infringement opinions and licensing technology. He also mediates disputes involving intellectual property and is on the U.S. District Court Mediation Panel List. He brings the perspective of an M&A lawyer to intellectual property disputes: he'll find a way to resolve the intellectual property dispute to get the deal done. Before becoming a lawyer, Paul was an assembly language programmer when a “deck of cards” was used for something more than playing poker.

Paul also represents both companies and venture capitalists in private placements and other financings. Paul's combination of experience in the intellectual property and securities areas positions him as sought after counsel in financings for evaluating and describing an issuer's intellectual property.

He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is the first New Hampshire Intellectual Property lawyer listed in Super Lawyers. He is also listed in Woodward/White's Best Lawyers in America in the field of Intellectual Property and has received the Lawyer's Lawyer Award for best New Hampshire lawyer for Securities Law and Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law. He is the founder and past chairman of the Intellectual Property Section of the New Hampshire Bar Association. He also rows competitively and refuses to wear a tie.

EDUCATION:

University of Michigan Law School, Juris Doctor (Cum Laude), 1971
Yale College, Bachelor of Science (Physics) 1967
