Elaine is a member of the firm's Litigation Department where she provides both counseling and litigation services to institutional and individual clients in the healthcare industry. As Chair of the firm's Healthcare Practice Group, Elaine represents individual medical professionals and institutions in the defense of medical malpractice claims in both state and federal courts. She has been involved in malpractice matters concerning all aspects of medical care, including surgery, obstetrics, anesthesiology, oncology, radiology, pathology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine and long term care.
In her counseling role, Elaine represents medical institutions and rehabilitation and long-term care facilities in the areas of policy development, employment issues, medical staff affairs, credentialing, peer review and quality assurance. She has assisted such institutions in the development of by-laws, medical staff policies, quality management plans and department protocols. Relying upon her experience in defending malpractice claims, Elaine also advises such clients on a daily basis in the risk management of safety incidents, patient outcomes and sentinel events.
Elaine also provides legal support to the medical staff leadership of medical institutions and works with medical staff committees who oversee matters impacting upon physicians and allied-health professionals, ranging from staff governance to substance abuse and behavioral issues.
Elaine frequently presents seminars to medical professionals and administrators on the issues of risk management, quality assurance, credentialing and medical malpractice prevention.
